It's Wednesday so it is time to join TarDevil for "I WONDER WEDNESDAY'.
This is the day we can wonder why about this or that and anything in between. Be sure to check her blog & see what she is wondering today & if others are wondering something too....
I am wondering why they don't make movies like they used to...you know...a movie with a beginning, a middle & an end... I liked the old spaghetti westerns..."The Good, The Bad & The Ugly"...can't you just hear the piercing theme music now...
*
or how about the unforgettable Kathy Bates in the thriller "Misery"...oh, this one still makes me shiver!
*
And Jack Nicholson was such a pain in the patoot as the OCD curmudgeon in this movie who was "saved" from himself at the end...
*
Oh, I loved this improbable love story set in the post civil war era South...
Sommersby...come back!
And what a compelling character study "Driving Miss Daisy" was...
was there ever a better actress than Jessica Tandy or better actor than Morgan Freeman? If so, don't tell me...
I can't bring myself to tell you how many times I've seen this movie....
Tawanda is my hero! Plus, I really do like to eat fried green tomatoes!

BO, I also love Steel Maganoia's I think its a wonderful story of courage and friendship...and Bo I loved it when Kathy Bates told those young girls she was older and had more Insurnace than them and ramped their car...
You know Bo I have some many that are my favorites and will watch them again and again..nothing better on a cold rainey day that to cuddle on the sofa with my blanket and a DVD...and and don't forget "You got Mail" Great post girl...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
I love "Driving Miss Daisy" and "Fried Green Tomatoes"! Of course, I'm a fan of "Gone With the Wind" and I can never resist "E.T." or "Wizard of Oz". I sure wish the prices of movies would come down so it would be more affordable for people to go!
Bo, you and me both, girl! You and me, both! :-)
XO,
Sheila
I've seen every movie you listed and loved them.Kathy Bates is such a wonderful and talented actress.I don't go to movies a lot anymore, I wait and buy the DVD.
Love ya,
Chris
Oh Gal, I agree those were great movies...nothing like the trash they advertise now. Now "Fireproof" is a fairly new movie. It is definitely a must see!
With the movies and movie stars now our young generation have no role models to look to. Well, ones that are good role models...the sex, drugs, etc lead the way!
Off my soap box...but you see where I am coming from!
Amelia
What a great "I wonder"! I don't really do movies anymore, probably for the very reasons you listed - I'd prefer to read the book!
Have a good one ~
Thanks for the reminder. I've actually seen all but one of those. Haven't seen any of this year's Academy Award nominees.
I agree with you completely Bo! The older movies are so much better than what is put out now. Sometimes I flip through the cable channels and just think of all the money wasted on garbage! :D Jewel
Hi Bo,
Somehow I think you are right on the money ! I think that we have way too much violence and sex these days in the news and on the theater screens.
Fried Green Tomatoes is one of my very favorites. I'm with you they just don't make movies like they used to. Of course, that don't make music like they used to either. Aaaah, the good ole days.
I loved these movies too, but I do miss the Cary Grant movies even more!
Bo
I love those movies and have seen them a number of times too. They are those wonderful classics although I have yet to see Sommersby...I'll have to remember to look for that one.
I agree with Morgan Freeman doesn't he have the greatest voice? I could listen to him speak always....
How about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Rainman too.
Thank you for sharing these movies...times to remember.
Have a great day
Judi
Oh, you are so right, Bo! I also loved French Kiss and Sleepless in Seattle with Megan Ryan! Nothing like a good old chick flick!! Have a great week!...hugs...Debbie
Hi Bo... Oh how I miss the great movies like Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes, Pretty Woman and more..they sure don't make them like that anymore.
I appreciate you asking after Mr. P. the coumadin is still a challenge.. the levels dropped again. We're not sure what's causing that.. they've changed his dosage again..and have to go back for another draw.. it's a roller coaster ride around here. But, for the most part he's feeling pretty good.. the sun is shining today so it's a good day...hugs ~lynne~
I loved all of the movies you mentioned. I have been renting older movies on Netflix lately. Old Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Audrey Hepburn....
Bo, you just gave me an idea of what to get from Netflix, Sommersby. Thanks! I have seen all the others and love them all...Christine
Bo, Totally agree with you....what ever happened to the beginning, middle and end of a movie., ;) They don't make them like they used to...I agree! Wanted to let you know the little spoon stirrers in my post today are peppermint tea or coffee stirrers., and I made them into placecards by using craft cutting scissors and showed how you can attach them to the stirrers by either taping them on or by stapling them on. My favorite is taping them on., you don't see the metal staple that way. ;) ~CC Catherine
A great I Wonder Bo! Thanks for playing along. I have got to see
Sommersby and Fried Green Tomatoes. I've mostly seen Disney or Nick since Sweetie came along. She's always with me, so I try to stick to G rated movies. :O)
You picked some great movies Bo!
I love all of those movies. I'm hoping that the side effect of this economic crisis will be some happier movies because we all need an escape and we have proved that going to the movies is not one of the things we are cutting out of our budgets.
I've been doing some wondering lately too. I think I'll try to put together an I wonder post today.
All of them, wonderful movies. I don't think movies are as good as even just a few years ago. All the monsters and violence now. One of my favorites...You've Got Mail...when he says...don't cry Shop Girl...Oh my heart. Great wondering post today!
Have a Wonderful Wednesday
from Roberta Anne
All movies that I've watched and loved as well....like you, though, Misery still makes me shiver when I think of it! lol You're right, they certainly don't make movies like they used to so it's no wonder that we keep going back to the older movies:-) xoxo
My all time favorite is Out Of Africa. Meryl Streep is my favorite actress, Robert Redford is my favorite actor, and Out Of Africa is one of my favorite books. It is a win, win, win for me.
Bo - I saw each movie that you mentioned at least twice. I also remember "Summer Place" and "An Affair to Remember." I also remember years ago that old movies were shown on TV on Sunday afternoons. I especially liked the Bette Davis movies. And of course, my favorite movie of all times, "Madame X." Bo - thanks for recalling some wonderful, wonderful movies.
Sweetie
Bo, we have the same taste in movies I see. You've listed some great ones!!!
Blessings
Bo, this is so true. I've seen all of these except Sommersby, not sure how I missed that but I'm going to try and see it. And I'm with Gloria, one of my favorite lines of all time from a movie is the older and more insurance bit! I just howled when I was that. But my all time, have seen it a gazillion times, have the book, have the soundtrack is To Kill a Mockingbird. When they tell Scout to stand because her father is passing, I just bawl like a baby. Great post, Kathy
Bo I love the older movies...especially the westerns with Jimmy Stewart & Randolph Scott..oh and I still cry when I watch Sommersby and don't even get me started on the Yearling...I just loved old movies and the old actors....these days actors come and go so quick you can't keep up with them! Great post girl!
Hi Bo...
Oooh...I love all of these movies! I had forgotten about Sommersby and sure would enjoy seeing that one again!!! Anything with Richard Gere...ahhhh! But don't let me get side-tracked...hehe!!!
Well my friend, I'm a bit behind...I just now read through your "Flaunt Your Red" post and how lovely!!! Girlfriend, you have some of the prettiest things!!! I loved the two pictures of Venice...they reminded me of our trip there 3 yrs. ago! I just adore that pretty red decorative pillow too!!!

He has seen it about 100 times and then when comes on TV he watches it like he has never seen it before. What a Hoot! :)
~Liz
Oh Bo, you hit the nail on the head with those movies - classics - all of 'em! I would love to try your fried green tomatoes! Why don't you make some and then post them so we can all try one???
Funny Farm - I could watch it over and over and never get tired of it. ~Kim
Morning, Dear Boness! I guess folks have been decking out their tables forever. Now, have you snapped for me yet? I can't remember! If you haven't, go to town.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi Bo! Driving Miss Daisy is my all time favorite! I watch it EVERYTIME it's on, and I hang on EVERY WORD! Deb
I think I've seen "the good, the bad and the ugly" about a gazillion times. I love his old movies. And Fried Green tomatoes is a classic!
Hi Bo, except for the westerns Your favorites are the same as mine, adding Gone With the Wind to the mix.
The newest Titanic wasn't too shabby either. Today's movies do not thrill me at all. I loved Mamma Mia, did you? Awesome.
I hope you have a wonderful day my friend.
Hugs...Jeanne
You are so right Bo!
I have no idea why but I can watch Misery over and over again.
What an amazing performance by Kathy Bates.
Have a wonderful day.
~Melissa ;)
Thanks so much for stopping by my little spring redo in the Ent. center. Isn't it fun to change things up a bit. I do appreciate your gracious remarks. Hugs, Marty
Hi Bo, You certainly name some goodie here! Love Driving Miss Daisy! The actors made that film a success! :) Great question...or wondering thought! ~hugs, Rhonda :)
Oh Bo, you are SO right! You made me want to see one of these great movies again. Do we sound like our mother's? They just don't make 'em like they used to! laurie
Bo,
I have seen most of the movies you have here so we must share the same taste. Some of my "old movie" favorites are Rear Window, Easter Parade, Miracle on 34th Street and Breakfast at Tiffanies.
Later movies are Under the Tuscan Sun (have watched that over and over!), Message in a Bottle, Love Actually, Jerry Maguire, Working Girl, Bridgit Jones Diary,,,can't think of any more right now. There seems to be a common thread in these movies, in that they all feature very independant, lovable women.
Love this post!
xoxo
Jane
