Trash To Treasure Tuesday

Diane at A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words is hosting this fun Trash To Treasure Tuesday event. Check out her great blog for other "thrifty" participants.

This week I'm showing my "thrifty" treasures in my living room. We inherited these old gold drapes when we purchased this house 1 1/2 years ago. One day I spied this valance in a Thrift Store for $50. & it followed me home....
*
*
*
*
At the same Thrift Store my DH found this heavy old brass cherub lamp on a marble base for $10. & with a new shade from Wal-Mart, it is now looking kind of spiffy....
*
*
*
*
We happened on this little cabinet for $17. one day & the next thing we knew, it had followed us home too....
*
*
*
Here is a close up and some of my junque I have stored in it...
*
*
*
I stole this idea from Lewis4 from RMS...she placed empty
frames around frames & I did that here over the little table...
*
*
*
It is a thrifty frame around a Home Interiors Victorian mirror with a little girl's portrait...
The mirror was only $10. & I forget the price on the outer frame, but it couldn't have been much or I wouldn't have bought it... (Social Security $$ doesn't go very far ya know!)
*
*
*
And lastly, I waited on this little inlaid table to come down in price to $15. at my favorite Thrift Store & brought it home.
My grandson says my house looks like an old lady's house (in a sweet way) and by golly...I have to agree with him....with all my old junque, it does...but it makes me happy!

Thanks for coming by to visit & hope your Tuesday is MARVELOUS!!!!

Well, I think it's all lovely, but my favorite is the curio. When I moved here, one of the people that looked at our house when it was for sale said it looked like an old person's house...whatever. Don't know exactly how that is suppose to look unless it's traditional. Your sweetie did good with the lamp too! XOXO!

Beautiful furniture, Bo ... and what bargains! I love "old lady" houses because they're usually full of heirlooms, antiques, and collectibles. I can't picture Pottery Barn stuff ever being sought after 50 years from now.

I enjoyed seeing your elegant treasures.

Sincerely,

Janie

Hi Bo, what beautiful treasures. Thanks for sharing. I love hearing some background about how you found each piece.

By the way, your Mr. Linky connection from Diane's blog did not work for me, so I had to get to you through your comment on her post. Just wanted to tell you so you could check it. I'd hate people to miss your great post today.

Oh, rats...I forgot all about Trash to Treasure today. Gotta make myself notes about all the fun things going on ....
I love all your treasures...Old lady house or not, we can't survive very long if we don't have things around us that we love...be it antiques or Pottery Barn!!@

Hi Bo,
I fixed your link this morning...it didn't work for some reason!

I love all your old lady finds! I have to agree with Janie...the Pottery Barn stuff will come and go, but your antiques are traditional and timeless!

The idea of placing a frame around a frame is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

GM BO, Thanks girl for coming by for tea today..and yes don't you love the Chintz..but girl it got so expensive in the 90 that you coild't touch it...I wanted a stacker tea pot and the cheapest one I could find was $1200.00 so you know I don't have one..BO I went to a Chintz tea gathering in 1995 and those gals were crazy about Chintz and were selling this stuff and wanting $250.00 for a berry bowl..too rich for my blood...but now you can find the stuff and its really gone down in price since the fad is over,,you pay that kind of money for a bowl you put in in a safe...thanks again...hugs and smiles Gloria

Hi Bo ... I love the cherub lamp and the half-round table, and think they'd look great together. The lampshade with the crystals was a great find, too.

Please stop by my blog and pick up a free copy of my new cookbook, "Finish The Feast: Leftover Turkey They'll Love To Eat!" It's filled with yummy recipes and is suitable for printing and giving as a gift.
