The ever so talented Gollum has challenged us to compose a story using at least 5 of the following words:
French blue
daylight (or rain)
Cinnamon (or cloves)
Invitation
Smooth (or rough, crinkly, glassy)
Clock
Circle (or circles)
Apple
Keys
Summer
Lovers
So here goes:
It was done. The hands on the Seth Thomas wall clock were set to be stilled and the dusty, faded and worn drapes were drawn. A slight murmur was passed along to those still in residence in the time worn old mansion. It had once been the epitome of elegance and anyone fortunate enough to receive an invitation to enter its hallowed halls, responded quickly in the affirmative.
Amazingly, a soft rain began to fall just as she had passed from this world. It would probably be the closest thing to tears that would be shed for her.
Her name was Maricella. She inherited the gorgeous blue eyes that some described as French blue and long, luxurious locks of flaxen colored hair from her aristocratic mother. Maricella truly was a rare beauty. She refused though to be trapped as her mother was in a loveless marriage.
However, that was long before the summer she had spent abroad. The keys to her inner being, the soul of herself, her very virginity had been relinquished to Father Damion. A love affair doomed from the start but with the passion only true lovers can ever experience. Never again would she live beyond the trist of that summer romance. As they lay together in the innocence of her surrender to him, they shared an apple, ripe & juicy ...and they laughed as they imagined themselves like Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden. Their love was just as pure.
The lonely years that followed were filled with questions...did he miss her as he said he would? Of course he did...theirs was the kind of love sonnets and poetry were made of. They held each other tightly the day they parted, vowing to keep their love for one another secret from the world until they could belong together eternally.
She lived a solitary life...pineing for the love that could never be. Sometimes as she looked at herself these many years later...a dowager's hump protruding from the cane that had become her body...she wished her life would become full circle. She remembered a summer romance that fulfilled her like no other ever would.
Now, decades later, approaching death, she had a smile upon her once smooth but now crinkled face...finally, she would leave this world and be forever reunited with the love that could never be in her lifetime.
Unfortunately, poor Maricella never knew that the love of her life, the dashing Father Damien had died a pitiful death, ravaged by syphilis acquired from all the lovely young ladies he had pledged his undying love for. He would never be reunited with her as he was rotting away in hell.
