~How To Have A "Dish-licious" Day~

What to do on a cold, blustery winter day?...go shopping, of course...so off Mr. Bo & I go to the football field size Montgomery Street Antique Mall...

And look who we run into...

*

Hello everybody...meet Pauler-deen (or whatever her name was...I forgot) and she can be yours for only $89.95

*

*

*

Thinking of her, made us hungry...so we duck in for a bite of lunch at the Rose Garden Tearoom which is much larger & more attractive than this photo shows...

*

*

*

Poor Mr. Bo's manly-man choices were few, but he opted for the bean & bacon soup with roast beef/Swiss on a french roll...I got the trio combo...chicken salad, quiche, bean & bacon soup and gave him the fruits...we both had a strawberry muffin...yum!

*

*

*

Now let the shopping, er...I mean LOOKING begin...
Oh, a cabinet full of Johnson Bros. Friendly Village pattern china...they had so much they stacked some plates on the floor..

*

*

*

Spode anyone? You'd have thought they were going out of business there were so many booths selling it...oh, yeah...they are, aren't they...

*

*

*

Don't whimper for Quimper...it's here!
Until Prof. Debbie told us, I didn't even know what Quimper was.. there are some serious pieces in this booth...

*

*

*

And here...

*

*

*

And here, too.

*

*

*

Okay, now this is loony to me...this cabinet is $34, 995.00...that's more than our first house, furniture & car added together cost! (way back when)

*

*

*

The china is Luneville...Novak Collection and this small tureen can be had for only $1,350.
*

*

*

If you'd prefer a larger one, this is a mere $1,800....really!

*

*

*

Finally, something for the budget-minded...plates are just $245. EACH...

*

*

*

That last display rattled me so much I forgot to check anything on these pretty blue & white Spode dishes.

*

*

*

Look at these beauties for $395. for all 47 pieces...sorry, didn't get the maker but I thought about Kathleen Ellis for these...

*

*

*

A close-up of the teapot...so pretty

*

*

*

Well, I would have been thrilled with any of these beautiful dishes (except maybe the Loony-ville) if the lottery would only call our numbers...

*

*

*

But being the thrifty seeker I am...I bought these instead...I sure didn't need them & I'm not showing a good picture because I'll do a tablescape soon...

Someone here in Blogland has this same set by American Atelier "Heavenly Hosts"...I remember they showed them at Christmas & I thought they were so pretty...who was it?
*
Thanks for indulging me on this little shopping spree...
*
Have a "dish-licious" day!

This looks like a fun trip. Your DH and food comment cracked me up, mine hates it when we go to "girly food" restaurants! I love the china you got, but I can't believe the price on that hutch! Thats 2 years of college tuition and housing lol. Kathy

Amelia said...

Our budget certainly can't afford most of those prices like those you encountered. I would be afraid to even touch them...guess they are for looks and not serve a home cooked meal on anyway.

Glad you and Mr. Bo had fun.

Amelia

PS I had an favorite uncle by the name of "Bo"...so I think of him oft times when I read your blog.

Bo, what a find! Precious dishes! And a girl can never have too much china. That's my motto. ;-)

I enjoyed this trip to the antique mall with you, and I enjoyed your lunch vicariously. Why am I always hungry?

Debbie will love those quimper dishes. They are WONDERFUL, and she will probably be in lust with the $499,000,000 cabinet and set to go with. They were pretty snazzy.

Hope you're not freezing in Texas. I've got to go crawl through the bushes and turn off all my spickets. This cold weather is for the birds and not poor frozen me.

XO,

Sheila

That was so much fun going on this nifty little tour with you!

Too bad you didn't carry a million bucks in your pocket while you went shopping (I mean, looking!). Oh, the things you could have brought home! Of course, I pride myself on being a thrifty shopper, too, so I'm always on the hunt for bargain.

I LOVE your dishes! I can't wait to see what kind of tablescape you come up with! You did very well...from one thrifty shopper to another! :)

I love what you chose to bring home and I'm looking forward to seeing your tablescape!

Thank you for the compliment of the photo. J took the photo of Split Rock with a 35mm film camera. We still have that camera and should use it now and then, while film is still available.

Good morning Bo, my first day in 10 days with no one to care for or feed. I am so enjoying my morning with nothing but visiting my blogging friends to do.

I totally enjoyed shopping with you today. I adore antiquing and dreaming. Today my dreams were shattered with the prices you were quoting. Holy macaroni! What is happening to the antique business? My sisters have been in business for twenty plus years and things are not great. Is it any wonder?

I do love your dishes you purchased. I am looking forward to a lovely table tablescape. Where are you going to store them? I've seen your multitudes of dishes girl.

Today I wish I could go out and eat at a sweet cafe too. We haven't been able to get up our driveway for a few days. Our daughter had to leave her car at the bottom of our drive and so did Bill. (it is not close) Today it is warming up to 50 degrees so hopefully it will melt the ice.

Now, I must remove Christmas from my house. I kept it up for the grands. Oh, am I sorry now!!!

Have a great day.

Hugs...Jeanne

WOW that is some antique mall. I dont believe we have any in my area with such prices! Cant wait to see your tablescape using your new delicious dishes! Sue

All that china made me swoon too! I can't believe those prices! I knew Quimperware was expensive but that Looney-ville -- oh my! I guess it graces Donald Trump's table ? You have to be a billionaire to afford it!

I can't believe Spode is going out of business along with Waterford and maybe Lenox. :-(

Have a good weekend and enjoy your new china!

Hi Bo, actually Cait did not get the "girly girl" from me - I was the girl in high school with the hot rod and a toolbox in the trunk lol (who when pulled over by cute Mr. Policeman batted her eyelashes and acted as though she didn't have too much air in her shocks and that was why the back end of her car was illegally high, and "Oh thank you so much for showing silly little me how to let the air out" and then pulling right into the next gas station to jack the car up again haha!) Oops, I think I just dated myself huh? Thanks for stopping by. Hugs, Kathy

Hi Bo! We went to the beach for a few days & came back early hoping to get some snow. All we got was a light dusting, but everyone else in NC seemed to get several inches. (I'm a tad jealous...can you tell? We see it so seldom, and we're further west now, so I don't get it!) I would love to go to that place w/ you all. Of course, I loved the most expensive dishes the best...surprise, surprise! Can't wait to see your tablescape b/c you know my bad old eyes can't see those plates from that far away! OMG, Bo! My heart is STILL beating soooo fast! Re that beauuutiful $35,000 china cabinet~~~ does that INCLUDE the fab china (yep, "Looneyville" really DOES "work" better, at THOSE prices, but oh, it isssss soooooo beauuuutiful, I must admit!). ALLLLLL of the chinas were just sooo pretty that I truly got excited, thinking "Now WHERE does she live? WHAT state has this store???"... then I realized THAT'S why my DH "brought" me to the desert~~~ he probably thought I'd be in the middle of "NOWHERE" & couldn't feed my "dish addiction"! (Ah-ha! He forgot about ONLINE ORDERING & things like E-BAY, etc!). Thanks for the verrrry delightful writing & eye candy just now, & I am sooo looking forward to seeing that yummy china YOU just bought on the next TT!!! (How FUN that your DH actually likes DOING that w/ you! Mine Sweetie would probably take up "daytime drinking", in the local pub, if I asked him to do THAT!)...Grins & thanks again, Linda

Hi Bo, me again, back for another look at those beautiful dishes. Thanks for visiting. There's a story behind some of those embroidery pieces. I was at a garage sale and the lady came out with a "buy the whole box" deal. I had plans to cut up the scarves to make a quilt, but never got around to it. Then on a decorating show I saw a ladies kitchen where she had hung old linens across the window, and PING! There was the inspiration.

I was sooo shocked at the prices of some of those dishes!!! Guess little miss thrift here, just lives in a different world. It's OK. I'm happy there. =0))

Idea. Please tell me what you think.
I am not at all into the fancy table- scapes i see you ladies doing,
but I have just done a bird nest tutorial, and thought wouldn't it be fun to have a bird/nest table scape.
Maybe even a contest somehow. Since i haven't done any of the special Blue Mondays, Table top Tuesdays, or flea market fridays, would need some help here.

What do you think???

Blessings on your week,
