A Doggone Good Tale...

So there we were 2 days after Christmas, my DH & I setting out to run some errands when we saw a little dog that looked like this one running in the street. Fearing it would get run over, we stopped & called to it to see if it had tags. It would just run & bark at us....so we followed it up another block & down the street. Some people had their garage door open & the little dog ran inside & continued barking. Sonny (DH), rang the people's doorbell to ask if it was their dog & to tell them he was running the streets. A man came out and said it was their dog & they LET him come & go as he pleased!! We told him we had Pomeranians and were worried for the dog's safety. The man then told us they were thinking of getting rid of him because they were gone all day....and did we want him? HUH??? He also said, "You can yank him up by his tail & he won't bite you!"...HUH?...the little dog was dirty, matted & obviously neglected..

We sure didn't need another dog but how could we resist...

*

*

*

So meet "Lil Bear" (their name for him)...The man told us he was 5, but his kids said he was 7 years old...so we don't know how old he is for sure...
*
*
*
Look how smart he is...he can beg...we think he found us & begged us to take him home...

*

*

*

Look...he can turn his head to the right...

*

*

*
He can look down....

*

*

*

He can look straight forward.....

*

*

*

OK, Lil Bear, smile at all of my blogger friends...now isn't he just the smartest little guy...LOL

*

*
We took him to the vet yesterday and had him checked out. All of his vitals are excellent. He does need his teeth cleaned which is scheduled for January 15th...He is such a sweet, loving little guy I don't know how anyone could just GIVE him away...but we are GLAD they did!
~~~~WARNING~~
This probably won't be the last you'll be seeing of Lil Bear...LOL
*
Thanks for coming by to visit today & Lil Bear says "WOOF"
Oh Bo, when you told me you had a surprise I just knew it was a little woofer. I was right and I am so happy for you. He is so beautiful and SMART. His coat is gorgeous. Will he have to be groomed often? I love his name Lil Bear, those people did something right and it looks like that was all they did. He is healthy and thank goodness for that. I can tell he has stolen your heart and Sonny's too. I do want a poodle but we are being strong and waiting for the end of this year. Every day my dh looks at a breeder we know to see if there are any new pups. Sigh. I still miss my Babette so much.
Well I can't go on forever. Best wishes to you with your new addition to the family. Will you take him to Colorado?
Love...Jeanne
Oh Bo, he is too cute! I especially love it when he smiled at me! ;O) With all your puppies, you'll be doing those Nikkicrumpet type posts soon! I don't think I could have resisted taking him home either. It's so sad they just let him roam free. What were they thinking??? I'm working on my post regarding yours truly, and hope to have it up by the end of the week. I'll come back & let you know! Hope you enjoyed your time w/ Evan!
Darlene said...
Ohhhhhhh you are an angel to take him home. I would have too! You know I have to resist animals so I don't end up with a zoo. Four indoor animals are enough for now!!
I can't fathom people just letting their dogs out to roam and possibly get killed in the streets. I have NEVER and WILL never understand that kind of mentality! He is just ADORABLE and I look forward to seeing more posts about this sweetie!
Bless you, dear Bo, for taking that little dog in. If the previous owner volunteered the information that one could pick the dog up by the tail and he would not retaliate, can you just imagine what other abuse and neglect this little guy suffered? I think you are wonderful for taking him in. I hope he gets along with your other little dogs, and look forward to seeing more of him!
We lost our elderly girls (Min Pins) this past year (still can't talk about it wihtout crying), and we've been looking at dogs in rescue. There are so many wonderful dogs who need homes, and I know we are going to find the two for us! This is the kind of story that makes me determined to get a rescue dog. Thank you for sharing, and I could never get tired of seeing pictures of dogs! LOVE them!
Dear Bo~ I truly believe you were God-sent for Lil' Bear~~~ no doubt he has ALREADY shown you just a SMIDGEON of all the love he has cooped up inside, especially after being with "THOSE" H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E people (picked him up by the TAIL, did they? I'd like to see THAT guy picked up by HIS!!!~OMG!). Anyway, blessings to you all on this wonderful new family member~~~ Our "Belle-girl" sends him welcome licks & she TOO is relieved that Lil Bear is now "WHERE HE BELONGS", and that is with YOU & your LOVING family! Happy New Year to you all, dear friend! Love, Linda (I MUST ask you to give him a great big warm hug n' tummy rub from me, ok??? Thanks!)~~~
Bo said...
Thank you everyone for all of your sweet words about Lil Bear...and Linda/Mom I will rub his little tummy for you...he really likes that! He is housebroken, but he had never used a doggy door...he caught on to that in a couple of days. His only bad habit is jumping on my sofa...but he's hopefully going to learn that is not allowed. All of his love & kisses he gives us makes it hard to scold him though... ;-) Bo
Good morning Bo, I'm saving lots of hugs and I want some back. We talked to Suzanne and all is set. We are definitely coming one or two days early so we can have a day to spend with you. We can get lodging at Fairplay 18 miles away. While you are there think of something we can do. Just visiting would suit us too. I loved seeing Lil Bear again. He is a wonderful little dog. Have you tried hanging him by is tail to see if he will bite. Just kidding, is that guy nuts? Thank heaven you saved him!!!
What a cutie I'm so glad you were in the right place at the right time.
I found you today while "flipping" through blogs and your name caught my eye. I was just wondering if Bo is your real given name? You see that was my mothers name (in Heaven since 1999). It is also my middle name. You don't hear it as a girls name very often. Mom's father named her after a character in a Zane Grey novel 80 some years ago. I didn't like having it for a middle name growing up. When kids asked me how it was spelled and I had to say B O, well there were always snickers lol. Now I like it and glad to have it as my middle name.
Blessing to you and yours,
Cheryl Bo
Glad you got to see Lauren Bacall's little pom Sophie. I'm sure Sophie and Lil Bear would be bestest of friends if they met. I thought it was interesting how blog commenters were poo pooing Glen Close for focusing on a pom ASSUMING it wasn't a rescue. Just because a dog is purebred doesn't mean it doesn't need a better home now does it? So glad your lil bear pom got RESCUED from roaming the streets and has a new safe home with you.
